A wildfire continued to burn Sunday after prompting evacuations Saturday night near the mouth of Ogden Canyon.
The blaze, dubbed the Indian Fire, began about 8 p.m. Saturday on the steep, rocky slopes above 22nd Street and had grown to 50 acres Sunday. A helicopter and more than 20 firefighters worked Sunday on containing the flames, which were burning through oak brush and timber, said Forest Service spokeswoman Kim Obsorn.
Though the flames were not threatening any homes and were moving up the mountain Saturday night, firefighters evacuated 10 to 20 homes east of Buchanan Avenue, from 1850 South to 22nd Street, as a precaution. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meeting house at 1550 Rushton St. was set up to house the evacuees.
By Sunday morning, residents had been let back into their homes, Osborn said.
The fire also prompted the closure of Bonneville Shoreline north trail, the Indian Trail and all of its connector trails Saturday night. The Forest Service urges people to stay out of those areas while firefighters continue to douse the blaze.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, though it's suspected to have been human caused, according to a Forest Service news release.
