Utah now has a second team of specialists to fly with infants and mothers in high-risk pregnancies to the hospital.
University of Utah Health Care this month launched its new perinatal AirMed team, which has three crew members: a newborn intensive care nurse, a perinatal respiratory therapist and an obstetrics nurse specializing in newborn care.
Intermountain Healthcare’s Lifeflight also has a perinatal team.
Besides serving pregnant women, the team will transport newborns from zero to 30 days old, according to a news release from the U. The team’s helicopter has the largest interior of any air ambulance in the state, the U. said.
AirMed brings patients to the University of Utah from throughout Utah and areas of Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, Nevada and Colorado.
