Utah now has a second team of specialists to fly with infants and mothers in high-risk pregnancies to the hospital.
University of Utah Health Care this month launched its new perinatal AirMed team, which has three crew members: a newborn intensive care nurse, a perinatal respiratory therapist and an obstetrics nurse specializing in newborn care.
Intermountain Healthcare's Lifeflight also has a perinatal team.
Besides serving pregnant women, the team will transport newborns from zero to 30 days old, according to a news release from the U. The team's helicopter has the largest interior of any air ambulance in the state, the U. said.
