A 14-year-old American Fork boy drowned Wednesday evening in Hyrum Reservoir.

The boy was swimming with cousins and friends in the southwest side of the reservoir when he went under the water around 7:30 p.m. and never surfaced, said Lt. Eric Stucki with Utah State Parks and Recreation. The boy was swimming without a life jacket in water that was 15- to 20-feet deep.

State Parks officers and Cache County search and rescue personnel looked for the teen, using divers in the search.

Around 9:50 p.m., the boy's body was found about 20 feet from shore in the area where he had disappeared, Stucki said.
