Doctors on Thursday reported they had stabilized two inmates seriously injured during a bloody melee between rival gangs at the Utah State Prison in Draper.
Department of Corrections spokeswoman Brooke Adams declined to specifically identify the gangs involved in the Wednesday fight, but confirmed that a lockdown remained in place on Thursday for the prison’s Wasatch, Oquirrh and Uinta facilities.
"There will be no visitation or volunteer-led activities for those areas today," Adams added.
The battle erupted at 10 a.m. at the prison’s Wasatch unit and involved 11 inmates. Two inmates suffered stab and blunt force trauma wounds and were taken by ambulance to the hospital.
An investigation is ongoing, and Adams said the inmates involved in the fight could face charges.
