Traffic in Layton was beginning to flow more smoothly about 5 p.m., an hour after a gas leak was reported at the intersection of Gentile Street and Fairfield Road.

The leak was contained as of 4:45 p.m., but motorists were asked to continue to avoid the area while a Questar crew finished repairs to the 2-inch line.

Responders tried to evacuate four apartments after the leak was reported at about 4 p.m., but all occupants were away from home anyway, firefighters said.

Questar will assist people lighting their pilot lights, police said.

The leak occurred in a construction zone where Questar is installing new pipe, firefighters said.
