Two people died Wednesday when another driver reportedly crashed into them head-on in Capitol Reef National Park.
A male driver was heading west on State Route 24 when he drifted off the right shoulder near the Twin Rocks area of the park, which is about five miles east of the town of Torrey, said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce.
The driver overcorrected to the left and went into the eastbound lane, striking another vehicle head-on about 9 a.m., Royce said.
Two people in the eastbound vehicle died at the scene, while the westbound driver was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, Royce said. UHP has not yet released the names, genders or ages of the deceased.
Why the male driver drifted off the road is still under investigation.
The highway was closed for about three hours while investigators cleared the scene.
