An early morning exchange of gunfire in a West Valley City neighborhood had police on the lookout Monday for several suspects.

West Valley City police spokeswoman Roxanne Vainuku said the incident, reported about 7 a.m., occurred near 3200 South and Beaver Street (about 3000 West).

A group of men was in a car parked near the home when a pickup truck came by and stopped. An argument ensued and one of the men in the pickup got out and allegedly fired a handgun toward the men at the carport.

The men in the car reportedly shot back, but no one was hit and suspects on both ends of the exchange sped from the scene before police arrived.

Whether the gun battle was gang-related was not immediately confirmed.

However, Vainuku said police knew who the suspects were and were looking for them.
