Three children were hurt after a cannon malfunctioned at the Orem Summerfest parade.

A Civil War reenactment group fired a cannon on 800 East, just south of Center Street, at the beginning of the parade. When the cannon went off, a spark landed on "a large pouch that contained additional charges for the cannon," according to an Orem Police news release.

The pouch exploded and hurt three children who were part of the reenactment group. They were treated at the scene and taken to the hospital.

The extent of their injuries is unknown, but they were all stable as they left for the hospital, according to the release.

Brad Kramer, who claims to have witnessed the incident, described the children as 10-year-olds who were marching behind the cannon. Ambulances arrived, took them away, and the parade resumed, Kramer added.
