Friday saw several fires across the state extinguished, contained or continuing to burn, from small roadside scorches to blazes spanning hundreds of acres.
• The Cow Hollow Fire in Duchesne County is burning about 8 to 10 miles south of Fruitland. It's grown to at least 30 acres as of Friday evening.
• The Slope Fire, which was sparked by lightning in Millard County, had grown to about 600 acres and was still burning without any reported containment Friday evening. The fire, which is showing "minimal activity" as it smolders in grass and brush, is not threatening any structures, according to fire officials.
• The lightning-sparked Pine Valley Fire in Beaver County was completely contained as of Friday afternoon. It had grown to about 110 acres.
• Firefighters extinguished a small blaze in Layton on Friday. At 1:54 p.m., firefighters responded to a fire in the heavy brush near Highway 89 and Oak Hills Drive. The fire burned about a quarter of an acre by the time firefighters extinguished it.
"This fire was caused by a construction crew that was repairing cracks on a residential asphalt driveway," according to a Layton City news release. "They used a propane torch to burn weeds out of the cracks and unfortunately the weeds and cotton and were too dense and fire grew into the brush."
