The nearly 1,000-acre Pony Fire — a human-caused blaze burning in tinder-dry cheatgrass and juniper at the foot of Tooele County's Simpson Mountains — was contained Thursday night.
Fire Information Officer Chad Douglas said about 125 firefighters, made up of crews from the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management and state agencies, had the wind-whipped fire 75 percent contained by mid-day Thursday.
The firefighters had full containment by the evening.
The fire earlier had been estimated at 1,500-to-2,000 acres, but a GPS aerial remapping effort on Thursday cut that acreage nearly in half.
