A prolific thief, possibly using a universal remote access device to gain entry to secure parking garages, is on the Salt Lake City Police Department’s radar.
Police Detective Cody Lougy said Wednesday that it is hoped someone will recognize the suspect from images recently captured by security cameras, and help police bring the crime spree to an end.
In recent weeks, the thief — a 20-35 year old white male, seen wearing a white jacket, black cap and a dark colored backpack — has hit at least five parking garages, possibly using sophisticated burglary tools to steal items from vehicles inside.
He is also suspected of stealing a bicycle and a car during his expeditions of thievery, which were caught on camera.
The bicycle was taken on May 26 from a parking garage at 115 S. 1100 East; the car, a black 2008 Subaru Tribeca that was later recovered, was stolen on May 31 from a parking garage at 960 E. 100 South.
Anyone with information on this case is asked to call SLCPD at 801-799-3000.
