A Salt Lake City man died in an apparent drowning on the Green River below northeastern Utah's Flaming Gorge Dam.

Daggett County sheriff's spokeswoman Susie Potter said Raymond E. Moody, 62, was rafting with his 13-year-old son about 6:45 p.m. Monday when the watercraft became stuck in debris. The boy managed to swim clear, but Moody could not free himself.

Other rafters eventually freed him and got him to shore, administering CPR to no avail.

Sheriff's deputies and members of the Swiftwater Search & Rescue unit arrived but also were unable to revive Moody.

Sheriff Jerry Jorgensen urged water sports enthusiasts to exercise extreme caution when on the river below the dam, noting that water volume this week is running high due to increased releases from the reservoir.
