A former Park City fire captain was sentenced Monday to probation for receiving pay for days he did not work dating back to 2011 by deleting or altering vacation, holiday and sick hours.
Randolph H. Scott, 50, was charged in 3rd District Court with three counts of second-degree felony theft.
Scott, who was terminated in August 2013, pleaded guilty in April to one count and the other two were dismissed.
He avoided jail time by paying $33,484.49, plus interest, to the Park City Fire District.
As part of a 36-month probation, he must complete 400 hours of community service and pay a $1,500 fine.
Scott's crimes were discovered by an Aug. 8, 2013 audit that showed discrepancies in his time-off requests and time-log database account activity, according to charges.
On Aug. 9, 2013, while speaking on the phone to Fire Chief Paul Hewitt, Scott said what he did was "really stupid," and admitted altering time cards and "apologized for letting himself down and letting Chief Hewitt down, according to charges.
