5-year-old critically injured in Salt Lake City hit-and-run
A 5-year-old girl was critically injured Friday night in a hit-and-run, Salt Lake City police say.
The girl was crossing 400 South at 1000 West at about 9:40 p.m. Friday when she was struck by a vehicle, which did not stop, according to Sgt. Robin Snyder.
The child apparently was leaving a friend's house and going to her own home, she said.
Because the girl was not in a crosswalk, the driver — assuming the case did not involve drunken driving or some other traffic violation — would not have been in legal trouble had he or she stopped, Snyder said. Now the driver is facing a felony charge for fleeing the scene, she said.
The car is described as a light-colored four-door sedan with a black-and-white bumper sticker above the license plate. The car probably has front-end damage.
Anyone who sees the car or has information on the case is asked to call the Salt Lake City Police Department at 801-799-3000.
