Ogden police said Friday they were investigating the discovery of a man's body inside a storage unit at a west side industrial park as a homicide.
Elgie Ray Mills Jr., 43, was found dead Thursday evening near 2930 Pennsylvania Ave., according to police, who believe he died at least a day earlier.
By Friday afternoon, police were also looking for a person of interest, 45-year-old Shawn Boehme, "believed to have been with the suspect close to the time of death," according to a news release. He is considered dangerous and "caution should be exercised if located," according to the police.
By Friday afternoon, investigators were interviewing several witnesses and serving search warrants at several locations, the news release adds.
Police spokesman John Harvey declined to detail how Mills may have died, saying the investigation was just beginning.
He said the body was turned over to the state Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
A woman called police at about 10:15 p.m. Thursday after she found the body, according to police.
Officers were dispatched and "found the circumstances suspicious and it is being investigated as such," police said.
Boehme is 6-foot-2, 150 pounds and his last known address was an apartment in Ogden, police said. Investigators found Boehme's truck Friday evening, abandoned in west Weber County.
Boehme has a substantial criminal history, mostly drug-related convictions, according to a search of Utah court records. His most recent conviction was in 2009, where he pleaded guilty to driving on a revoked license and having a "speed contest" on a highway, and several drug-related charges were dismissed. He was ordered to complete drug court in that case, according to court records.
Court records indicate that Mills was released from the Davis County jail on April 11, after being convicted of violating a protective order, interfering with an arresting officer and failure to stop at the command of police.
Mills' other recent criminal history revolves primarily around multiple protection order violations over the last six years, according to court records.
