Sanpete County deputies are investigating a report that someone was nearly kidnapped at gunpoint.

About 10:50 a.m. Monday morning, deputies responded to call in Mayfield about a man with a gun. When deputies arrived, they found the person who called, a woman who told them that while she walking near the roadway, a car abruptly stopped next to her.

"The driver got out of the car, pulled a gun [from his right hip] and then she was able to run away," according to a Sanpete County Sheriff’s Office news release, distributed late Tuesday night.

The car was described as a newer white, possibly four-door passenger car. The driver is described as a 6-foot-tall male, possibly white, with broad shoulders, according to the release.

The case is under investigation.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Sanpete County Sheriff’s Office at 435-835-2345. mmcfall@sltrib.com
