A SWAT call shut down an Eagle Mountain neighborhood on Saturday.
Utah County sheriff's deputies went to a home near Eagle Mountain Boulevard and Ira Hudges Scenic Parkway on Saturday after a man's wife arrived in an emergency room, said Sgt. Spencer Cannon. The wife's husband allegedly assaulted her and their two children with a broomstick the night before, so the emergency room staff called law enforcement, Cannon said.
The children suffered minor injuries, and the wife's injuries were "more serious," though not life-threatening, Cannon added.
Around the time of the assault, the man also allegedly threatened that he would "take out" anyone who would come for him if his wife called the police, Cannon said. His wife advised officers that he has firearms in the home, including a shotgun, the sergeant added.
A SWAT team arrived at the 59-year-old man's home, where he reportedly would not come out. The team tried to talk to the man, who eventually came out on his own, Cannon said.
During the SWAT situation, the city had asked the public to stay away from the Overland Trails neighborhood — specifically Shallow Water Road, Springwater Way and Deep Water Road — about 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
By about 5:50 p.m., the city reported that sheriff's office took the man into custody. Deputies planned to book him into Utah County Jail under suspicion of aggravated assault, domestic violence in the presence of a child and terroristic threats, Cannon said.
