Sandy police plan to seek charges against a Canyons School District bus driver accused of sexually abusing a number of the young children he transported.

Sandy police Sgt. Jon Arnold confirmed Monday that detectives have gone through three months' worth of security camera video from the male driver's bus as part of their investigation.

"We received information [in late April] that he may be sexually abusing kids on his bus," Arnold said. "We will be screening the case with the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office within the next day or so."

Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, Arnold could not provide further details other than to indicate the victims were preschool-age children and that there is evidence of multiple incidents.

Canyons School District spokeswoman Jennifer Toomer-Cook confirmed that the driver "does not work for us any longer."

District officials learned of the allegations after school on April 23 and put the driver on leave the next day. He later resigned, Toomer-Cook said.

Neither police nor school district officials would identify the suspected driver, who had not yet been arrested, at this time.
