The bodies of two men were recovered Wednesday from the wreckage of a small plane registered to a Washington County flight school, sheriff's deputies reported Wednesday evening.
The plane crashed near the Cove Wash Trailhead in the mountains south of the town of Santa Clara, Washington County sheriff's Sgt. David R. Crouse said. A caller reported the crash in a 911 call at 11:09 a.m., and a search helicopter crew found the aircraft a short time later. The plane was upside down.
The victims' names and personal information were being withheld pending family notification, Crouse said.
Crouse said both the sheriff's office and FAA are investigating the incident. The cause of the crash is unknown.
"At this point, we are unaware of any radio traffic or emergency beacons indicating the aircraft was in distress prior to the incident," Crouse wrote in a press statement Wednesday night.
