A man and woman, who each suffered gunshots wounds at a Sugar House area home Tuesday morning, have been identified by police as the male resident of the home and a female escort.

Salt Lake City dispatchers received several 911 calls, beginning at 4:17 a.m., reporting gunshots and the sounds of a woman screaming from inside a four-plex apartment unit at 1856 S. 1200 East.

Police said the 32-year-old male resident had called the woman, in her mid-20s, to the home.

During the meeting of the two, a handgun was produced, a scuffle ensued and each suffered gunshot wounds, police said.

Both remained in serious condition at a hospital on Tuesday afternoon.

SLCPD Detective Greg Wilkings confirmed that a handgun was spotted inside the apartment.

Police obtained a search warrant before re-entering the residence, and investigators remained at the crime scene-taped location well into Tuesday afternoon.
