History and train buffs will converge on the Golden Spike National Historic Site in northern Utah on May 10 for the 145th anniversary of the driving of the final spike that completed the nation's first transcontinental railroad.

Entry to the historic monument is free on May 10.

Aaron Hunt, with the Union Pacific Railroad, will serve as the keynote speaker. A re-enactment of the famous champagne celebration image will be held so a new photograph can be taken. Visitors are encouraged to come dressed in 1860s period clothing.

The visitor center at Golden Spike will open at 9 a.m. The Jupiter and No. 119 locomotives will arrive at the historic location at 9:30 a.m. and the photos are scheduled for 10 a.m.

The anniversary program will start at 11:30 a.m.

Events scheduled to start at 12:20 p.m. include a steam demonstration, driving of the last spike, a ranger program and a departure of the locomotives, at 4:30 p.m.

Bleacher seating is available, and there is open space for blankets and lawn chairs. Visitors are welcome to bring picnic lunches, but prepared food will be available for purchase.

Golden Spike National Historic Site is 32 miles west of Brigham City on State Highway 13, and then State Highway 83.
