An eighth-grader at Mont Harmon Junior High School in Price was arrested Wednesday after reportedly bringing a gun to school.
The student showed the gun to a fellow student at about 11:30 a.m., then hid the weapon on the school grounds, according to a news release from the Price City police department.
The student who had seen the gun reported the incident to school officials at 11:45 a.m.
School officials immediately put the school on lockdown and contacted police .
Officers from Price City police, Carbon County sheriff's office, Helper police, and state Adult Probation and Parole responded, and the student was safely in custody by 11:55 a.m., according to the news release.
After initial denials, the student revealed to police that he had hidden the gun and led officers to an unloaded Colt .38 revolver.
No ammunition was present at the school, and no one was ever threatened with the gun, police reported.
Within 45 minutes, the situation was resolved, the lockdown was lifted, and normal school operations resumed.
The student has been taken to the Price Youth Detention Facility. Other aspects of the investigation are ongoing, according to the news release.
