Taylorsville • Unified Police detectives on Wednesday were investigating a "suspicious death," which is being treated as a homicide, after officers conducted a welfare check at a Salt Lake County home.
UPD Lt. Justin Hoyal said family members of a 59-year-old woman had called 911, concerned that they had not heard from the woman — who lives alone — since Saturday. Officers were dispatched to check the residence, in the 3900 West block of Blue Meadow Drive (5850 South) in Taylorsville.
"In the process of searching the home they found a deceased body. There is evidence at the scene that leads us to believe that the death is suspicious. The case is being treated as a homicide," Hoyal said. He would not say where in the house the body was found. There was no sign of forced entry or damage to the outside of the home.
Hoyal said investigators could not positively confirm or rule out the body as the missing woman's — or even identify the body as male or female. He also said the cause of death was not immediately apparent.
As of 3:15 p.m., investigators, before entering the home, were donning special suits to prevent their hairs or skin cells from contaminating the scene.
The body was taken by the state Medical Examiner's Office. Investigators may be able to release information as to the individual's identity and cause of death after an autopsy on Thursday, Hoyal said.
"As more information is available it will be released," Hoyal said.
