West Valley City police were investigating a shooting that sent a teenaged apartment dweller to the hospital Wednesday.

WVCPD spokeswoman Roxanne Vainuku confirmed the shooting was reported about 11:50 a.m. at 4545 S. Dean Drive (3825 West), an apartment building just west of Bangerter Highway.

Witnesses told police that a man drove a dark sedan into the complex's parking lot, began arguing with several people and then fired a handgun twice. Both bullets went through the wall of the two-story building, striking a 17-year-old male tenant in the ankle.

He was taken to the hospital in satisfactory condition.

No one else was injured.

Police were just beginning their investigation Wednesday afternoon and had not yet identified the suspect, who drove away from the scene after the shooting.
