Wildlife officers want the public's help finding a cow elk poacher.

Someone found a slain cow elk shot in the South Book Cliffs near Wild Cow Wash, according to the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. The area is about 8 miles west of the Utah-Colorado border, north of Interstate 70.

The meat on the cow elk had been removed from its carcass. The shooting likely occurred between April 4 and April 6, according to the division.

Anyone who saw vehicles near Wild Cow Wash during those days, or has other information about the shooting, is asked to call the poacher hotline at 1-800-662-3337.

Rewards are available and callers can remain anonymous.
