Alcohol is suspected a factor in a single-vehicle rollover crash in Providence Canyon that sparked a major ground search for the driver.
Cache County Sheriff's Lt. Mike Peterson said deputies responding to a 911 call found a wrecked and abandoned 1990s model Mazda pickup truck about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, approximately 2 miles up the canyon. It had rolled off the road.
Deputies and about 20 members of the Cache County Search and Rescue team searched the area for the driver, only to learn from a family member that the 40-year-old man had been picked up at the mouth of the canyon, complaining of a bump on the head and possibly bruised or broken ribs.
The search was called off and the driver was transported to Cache Valley Hospital.
The driver had not been arrested as of Friday, but Peterson said deputies found unspecified evidence of drunk driving and were investigating the crash further.
