Salt Lake City police say a failed traffic stop, a chase, a crash and the keen senses of their police dogs ended with the arrests of two ex-cons.
The incident began at 3:25 a.m. Sunday when a K-9 officer attempted to pull over a suspicious vehicle, which then sped away. The officer ended his pursuit due to public safety concerns, only to discover moments later that the suspect vehicle had crashed into a parked car near 400 East and Emerson Street (1400 South).
Police set up a containment area and, using two dogs, soon located first, a 28-year-old suspect hiding under stairs. A short time later, the dogs led them to the second, a 34-year-old suspect, hiding in area just north of the crash site.
The two were booked into the Salt Lake County jail on suspicion of fleeing police, possession of burglary tools, parole violation and active arrest warrants.
