A West Valley City man was in serious condition Monday, two days after he fatally struck a moose and totaled his car on Highway 40 near Strawberry Reservoir.

The Utah Highway Patrol said the 61-year-old man’s Saturn, traveling 65-75 mph, was westbound about 8:30 p.m. Saturday when the cow moose stepped into the road. The collision sent the animal up onto the hood, where it shattered the windshield and collapsed the car’s roof.
