Two stabbing attacks outside downtown Salt Lake City homeless shelter
Salt Lake City police have one suspect in custody and are looking for another after two stabbing attacks near a downtown homeless shelter in as many days.
Salt Lake City police Detective Veronica Montoya said the first attack was reported at 11:09 a.m. Wednesday outside the Road Home shelter at 210 South Rio Grande. Officers found a 23-year-old man had been stabbed in the face.
Officers soon after located and arrested a 54-year-old male suspect, booking him into the Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of aggravated assault, as well as outstanding warrants.
The victim was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
Also in serious condition was a 43-year-old man after police found him with slashes to the forehead just before 4 a.m. Thursday near 400 W. 200 South.
Montoya said the victim was uncooperative with police and provided little information on possible suspects. He became combative at the hospital and had to be sedated, delaying further attempts to question him.
