A 12-year-old girl was in critical but improved condition Monday, three days after she suffered extensive injuries in a single-vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 15 in Millard County.
Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said Monday that he understood Fallon Nicholson, of Lehi, had been stabilized and was expected to recover.
The girl remained in Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City. The 39-year-old driver, Rachelle Nicholson, and a 17-year-old girl were taken Saturday to Fillmore Community Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Rachelle Nicholson was driving a Mazda passenger car south near milepost 140 on Interstate 15 about 7:15 a.m. Saturday when she apparently drifted off the left side of the road into the median. She then over-corrected, swerving back onto the road across both travel lanes; the vehicle then overturned as it left the highway to the right.
Officers said Fallon Nicholson was lying in the back seat unrestrained. She was ejected as the car rolled, and the vehicle came to rest on top of the girl. Witnesses stopped and lifted the car off of her.
An investigation into the cause of the accident was ongoing.
