The Downtown Alliance business group is encouraging residents and organizations to donate to homeless service providers Thursday for "Love UT, Give UT," an annual statewide day of giving.
The Downtown Alliance in conjunction with Friendemic, a social media agency, are urging Utahns to donate to The Road Home, Fourth Street Clinic, Volunteers of America, Crossroads Urban Center and St. Vincent de Paul. The organizations provide food, shelter, clothing, advocacy, home and career placement for some of Utah's most vulnerable groups and individuals.

"We spent some time thinking about the best way to get behind Love Utah, Give Utah and decided to support other non-profits who are working to address homelessness in our community," said Jason Mathis, executive director of the Downtown Alliance. "It may be a little unusual for a nonprofit to actively solicit donations for other organizations, but this underscores the downtown business community's efforts to collaborate and find solutions."
The need for homeless service providers continues to grow and so, too, does the need for community support. "Love Ut, Give Ut" is one simple way to support the homeless providers in our community, Mathis said.
The 2013 Utah Point-in-Time Count estimates that 15,140 individuals experienced homelessness in Utah during 2013.
