Syracuse • Authorities in Davis County are trying to find whoever illegally dumped about 1,000 gallons of used motor oil into sewer lines last month.
Officials with the North Davis Sewer District say operators at a Syracuse water treatment plant noticed a patch of oil flowing into the station the morning of Feb. 21. The plant was not damaged.
Sewer district manager Kevin Cowan told the Standard-Examiner he suspects the culprit is the driver of an oil pumper who sent the oil into a manhole in the wee hours of the morning.
Cowan says there are no suspects. The person responsible could face fines and citations.
Officials with the Utah Department of Environmental Quality say it's odd for someone to dump oil when it can be readily recycled.
