Lehi police are still investigating who was at fault in a traffic accident that killed two cyclists last week.
The March 12 crash killed Bryan Byrge, 39, of Riverton, and John Coons, 35, of Herriman.
The two cyclists were hit by a truck at the intersection of 2100 North and Redwood Road at about 6 a.m., while it was still dark.
The victims were southbound on Redwood Road and had just begun to make a left turn onto 2100 North when they were hit by the northbound pickup, according to police.
The 41-year-old driver of the Ford F-150 reportedly was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries, which included cuts sustained when his windshield shattered.
Lehi police Lt. Darren Paul said Monday that police are still working to determine whether the cyclists or the truck driver were at fault in the accident. Paul said witnesses have reported both Byrge and Coons had head and tail lights on their bicycles. He said he hoped to have a conclusion by the end of the week.
Friends of the victims — who participated in a Friday bicycle ride in remembrance of them — said the two had a weekly tradition of cycling together to their jobs in Utah County — Byrge at Fishbowl Inventory in Provo and Coons at Hotdocs in Lindon, according to company websites.
Byrge and Coons both were married; Coons was father to three young children and Byrge had four. Their homes were just blocks apart and the two men enjoyed cycling, basketball and other outdoor sports, friends said.
Funeral services for Coons were to be held at noon Wednesday at the Herriman Utah Stake Center, 5562 W. 13680 South in Riverton, and a viewing was scheduled at the stake center on Wednesday from 10 to 11:45 a.m. Interment was to follow at the Herriman Cemetery, 12465 S. 6000 West.
Funeral services for Byrge were held Tuesday.
