West Valley police were in the unusual position of trying to protect and serve a would-be drug buyer Saturday morning after a dealer carjacked his vehicle at gunpoint and fled.

West Valley police Lt. Dalan Taylor said the victim’s white Dodge Charger was stolen around 3:25 a.m. at a Wal-Mart at 5675 W. 6200 South and was found a short time later, wrecked and unoccupied, at 4900 S. 4055 West in Kearns. Police did not locate a suspect.

The carjacker is described as a Latino male with short hair, wearing a white sweatshirt.

Taylor did not have a description of the victim, who called the police after the carjacking and will not be charged, because "just arranging to meet to purchase drugs is not really a violation."

Anybody with information is asked to call 801-840-4000.
