Unified Police are investigating how a 30-year-old Salt Lake County man died in Ferguson Canyon.

Hikers in the canyon found Daniel Nelson's body about 2:45 p.m. Friday. His body was about a mile and a half into the canyon and below a rock outcropping, said Cottonwood Heights police Lt. Mark Askerlund.

Cottonwood Heights police initially handled the case, but later turned it over to the Unified Police Department.

Police could not immediately tell whether the man had been rock climbing and were still investigating the cause of death. His injuries are consistent with a fall, said Unified police Detective Ken Hansen.

He was last seen alive at 10 a.m. Friday, Unified Police reported in a tweet.
