A 35-year-old man, trying to help people involved in an earlier crash, was fighting for his life after being struck by a car on Redwood Road in Taylorsville Tuesday morning.
Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said the man, Anthony Rodriguez, was hit at 7:38 a.m. while walking in the southbound lanes near 5225 South. Rodriguez, who lives nearby, had just called 911 after witnessing a two-car collision in the intersection at Redwood Road and 5200 South.
He reportedly was checking on the drivers and passengers, who turned out not to have been injured.
"Witnesses said he was hit by a car that had a green light, and the 21-year-old [male] driver didn't see him in time," Hoyal said.
Rodriguez was taken by ground ambulance to Intermountain Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition. By 2 p.m., Unified police announced he was "extremely critical."
Hoyal said that clearing the scene from the previous accident and investigating the auto-pedestrian incident restricted traffic through the area for about two hours.
