A former Grantsville high school teacher was sentenced to 100 hours of community service Monday for committing a sex act in front of a child in the steam room at a Murray gym last year.
Salvatore Degraffendreidt and another man were charged in October with entering a steam room at 5445 S. 900 East, which is the Sports Mall in Murray, and masturbating while a 12-year-old boy was in the room.
Degraffendreidt, 30, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of lewdness in December. The other man, 47, pleaded guilty to an identical charge one month later.
Both were sentenced Monday.
Third District Judge Katie Bernards-Goodman ordered Degraffendreidt to complete 100 hours of community service, undergo a psychosexual evaluation and remain on supervised probation for two years.
Judge Denise Lindberg ordered the other man to perform 80 hours of community service, pay a $700 fine and remain on probation for two years.
According to Tooele County School District officials, Degraffendreidt is no longer working at Grantsville High.
He had been on administrative leave since his October arrest until he left the department in December.
Tooele School District Superintendent Scott Rogers has said Degraffenreidt was hired in 2008 at Tooele High School. He transferred to Grantsville High School in 2010, where most recently he taught choir.
Rogers has said there have been no past complaints about Degraffenreidt and there is no indication that any students were victimized or that crimes were committed on school property.
