West Valley City police on Monday were searching for a 12-year-old girl who disappeared about 3:30 p.m.

Ashley Esquivel was last seen at the American Preparatory School, 3636 W. 3100 South.

Esquivel is 5 feet 4 inches tall, Latina, with black, medium-length hair. She was wearing a school uniform of khaki pants, a blue oxford-style shirt and a blue button-up cardigan sweater. Deputy Police Chief Mike Powell said she is off diminished capacity.

"We are very concerned for her right now," he said.

This case is separate from the search for a missing 12-year-old boy in Taylorsville who also disappeared late Monday afternoon.
