A police chase that began after several televisions were stolen at knifepoint from an American Fork Walmart store ended late Monday morning in a crash near Interstate 15 in Sandy.
American Fork police began the pursuit after receiving a 911 call on the robbery, and it eventually involved several other law enforcement agencies as it wound through Lehi and into Salt Lake County.
Sandy police Sgt. Jon Arnold said traffic spike strips were deployed on I-15 south of Sandy, slowing down the suspect vehicle. At about 9:40 a.m., the car — a gold, late-model four-door sedan — took the 9000 South exit into Sandy and collided with a pickup truck.
American Fork and Lehi officers quickly took a man and a woman into custody. They were taken by ambulance to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray for treatment; the woman was to stay overnight for observation, and the man was booked into the Utah County jail, American Fork police said.
Several new, large-screen TV sets were recovered from the trunk of the vehicle.
Emergency crews took several hours to clear wreckage from the scene and reopen 9000 South.
