The Utah Transit Authority's popular "FAREPAY" card promotion is being extended through the remainder of the year.

UTA General Manager Michael Allegra said Thursday that riders wanting to give the electronic cards a try on buses and trains will be able to do so through Dec. 31 — and enjoy a 20 percent fare reduction as part of the deal.

"We've found that many riders love the flexibility and convenience that FAREPAY cards provide," Allegra said. "We hope that extending this promotion will encourage even more UTA riders to try FAREPAY."

The promotion for the reloadable fare cards was first launched in October, 2013. Riders can load the cards with amounts from $5 to $500. Each time they "tap on" or "tap off" using card terminal posts at train stations or on buses the fare is automatically deducted.

That saves both time and hassle for customers who formerly had to fish through their pockets for change or wait in line at ticket vending machines.

FAREPAY is available online at farepay.rideuta.com, at UTA Customer Service centers and at more than 250 retailers across the Wasatch Front. FAREPAY users are encouraged to register and create an account online at farepay.rideuta.com.
