The popular Hickman Bridge Trailhead in southern Utah's Capitol Reef National Park will be periodically closed over the next three weeks to allow for rock wall repair work.

National Park Service spokeswoman Lori Rome said the first of the closures began Tuesday and will extend through March 4; the second closure will be for March 12-18.

Rome said the specific times for the closures, which are being implemented for safety reasons, will be subject to change as work progresses.

The repairs were necessitated by a rock fall on the trailhead on March 23, 2013. As a result, the trail was realigned to skirt the rock debris at that time. Then in September, flooding washed out a retaining wall near the rock fall, bringing the need for the new repairs.
