A man died in southwestern Utah while driving himself to the emergency room.

The 49-year-old man was on State Road 56 on Monday when his maroon Ford F-150 went off the road near mile post 33 — west of Cedar City. A female passenger told investigators that he had been having health problems and was on his way to the emergency room, said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce.

UHP is not identifying the man since his death was the likely the result of the medical issue, as opposed to the accident.

His body was sent to the state medical examiner's office to confirm his cause of death.
