A wanted cyclist’s alleged flight from the law came to an end when he crashed in front of Salt Lake City police headquarters.
On Saturday afternoon, the 32-year-old man rode into the intersection of 200 E. 400 South against a red light and nearly hit a passing police car, according to the police watch log. Officers tried to stop him for the traffic violation, but he fled.
The man rode toward the Public Safety Building, about a block east from the intersection, but — unable to navigate the center island curb — crashed, the watch log reads.
The man briefly struggled with police before they took him into custody, the watch log adds.
The police booked him into jail on suspicion of having methamphetamine and burglary tools, failure to stop for a police officer and the red light violation. He also had outstanding warrants for suspicion of burglary, fleeing and theft, according to the watch log.
