What started as a 911 call about people brandishing firearms outside of a Vernal home ended with half-dozen drug-related arrests.

Uintah County Sheriff’s Corporal Brian Fletcher said the incident began when deputies were dispatched Wednesday night to investigate the report of people with guns outside the residence.

"When deputies arrived, a vehicle was attempting to leave the area and a person was seen running into the residence," Fletcher stated. "The vehicle was then stopped and drug paraphernalia was observed inside the car."

The 28-year-old driver was arrested for driving on a suspended license and possession of drug paraphernalia. A 21-year-old female passenger also was arrested on outstanding warrants.

Deputies also located a stolen handgun on the ground near the home, Fletcher said.

Police obtained a search warrant for both the car and residence and soon located a variety of illegal drugs were seized from the vehicle. Inside the home, four more men — ages 24, 26, 29 and 31 — were found in possession of firearms and drugs, ranging from methamphetamine to heroin.

Those four were booked into jail on suspicion of firearms possession by restricted persons, drug and drug paraphernalia possession charges, as well as several outstanding warrants.

All the suspects were believed to be from the Vernal area.
