Sandy Elementary School was on lock down for almost two hours Wednesday while police tried to track down a burglary suspect.

A family member of the suspect called police around noon Wednesday, saying he had allegedly broken into a relative's home, said Sandy Police Sgt. Jon Arnold.

The family member also said that she thought she saw the suspect entering the school, at 8725 S. 280 East, shortly after noon, Arnold said.

According to the suspect's family, he had also committed a robbery in South Salt Lake either "last night or the night before," Arnold said. When he allegedly committed the robbery, he had a weapon, Arnold added.

The school was locked down until 1:45 p.m. while police searched the campus, but they did not find the suspect. Police are also searching the house that the man allegedly broke into, Arnold said.

Sandy police had not been able to verify what robbery, if any, the man allegedly committed.
