Unified Police say a mother who tried to mail her jailed daughter drugs ended up behind bars herself.
The 58-year-old Salt Lake City woman allegedly admitted to investigators that she mailed strips of Suboxone, a sublingual drug usually used to treat opiate addiction, around Jan. 10. The strips were hidden inside an envelope but discovered by Salt Lake County jail screeners before the inmate, who was not identified, could use them.
Reviewing recorded visitation conversations between the mother and daughter, jail personnel found evidence indicating the woman was responsible for sending the contraband.
UPD officers interviewed the mother on Feb. 4 at UPD headquarters and, according to a probable cause statement, she admitted to mailing the strips.
She was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of second-degree felony distribution of a controlled substance, then released on Feb. 5 without bail pending the setting of a first appearance hearing in 3rd District Court.
As of Wednesday, no hearing had been scheduled for her.
