A 35-year-old man was in the hospital Thursday night after being stabbed multiple times in West Valley City.

The man was at the home of a 33-year-old woman Thursday when the woman's estranged husband showed up, West Valley City Lt. Matt Elson said. The two men got into some sort of confrontation and the 35-year-old man ended up with several stab wounds. The estranged husband left the scene after the stabbing but later returned while police were there and was arrested.

The stabbing happened about 3:14 p.m. at a home at 6449 W. 3785 South.

Elson said the victim was taken to a nearby hospital. He was stable Thursday night and doctors expected him to survive.

Investigators Thursday were still trying to piece together what happened. According to Elson, it was not immediately clear what the victim's relationship was with the woman. The victim is not a resident of the home where the stabbing happened. Elson added that the victim and the estranged husband were acquainted before the stabbing.

Police expected to book the estranged husband on suspicion of attempted homicide Thursday.
