A 20-year-old man remained in critical condition Thursday, the day after he and two others were injured when their car crashed into and under a semi-trailer rig on Interstate 15 near Layton.
Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said the man was a rear-seat passenger in a northbound Honda Civic that first slid on the wet road surface and collided with a concrete median wall before crashing into the semi, and becoming wedged under its trailer.
The 38-year-old female driver of the Honda was in serious condition at Ogden Regional Hospital with head injuries, while a 16-year-old girl sustained minor injuries. The male passenger was flown to McKay-Dee Hospital, having suffered severe head trauma.
Royce said it appeared none of the Honda's occupants was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
Excessive speed and road conditions were considered factors in the crash, though it remained under investigation.
The driver of the semi was unhurt.
