A Washington County sheriff's officer arrested for alleged drunken driving over the weekend was placed on administrative leave Monday pending separate internal affairs and accident investigations.
Lt. Jason Lynn Adams was arrested about 4:30 p.m. Sunday after his unmarked duty vehicle, a Ford F-150 pickup, crashed and rolled on Highway 17 near LaVerkin, according to Washington County Sheriff Cory Pulsipher.
Neither Adams, 39, of Toquerville, nor his four children, who were passengers, sustained more than minor injuries.
Pulsipher said the Utah Highway Patrol, which made the arrest, was conducting the accident investigation. Adams. a 16-year-old veteran of the sheriff's department, will remain off duty pending results of that investigation and the sheriff's own probe into the incident.
UHP Sgt. Todd Royce said troopers placed Adams under arrest at the scene of the accident after their preliminary investigation indicated alcohol was involved. Royce referred further questions about prosecution to the Washington County Attorney's Office, which had not filed formal counts against Adams as of Monday afternoon.
Royce said that due to his status as a Washington County lawman, Adams was taken to the Iron County Jail in Cedar City.
Jail records show Adams was booked on suspicion of class A misdemeanor driving while under the influence of alcohol with a minor child in vehicle; class A misdemeanor possession of a firearm while under the influence; and class C misdemeanor unsafe lane change.
He was released after posting $2,693 bail, according to jail booking records.
