An Ogden man escaped the flames that ignited inside his home early Monday morning; his dog did not.

Ogden Deputy Fire Chief Eric Bauman said that firefighters rushed to the 1960 Jackson Ave. blaze at 1:03 a.m. Crews were able to contain the flames to an upstairs bedroom.

However, the man's dog was found dead inside the smoke-filled, two-story house.

The cause of the fire, battled by 14 firefighters, was under investigation.

There was no immediate estimate for damages.

The Red Cross was assisting the resident with food, shelter and clothing needs.
